MALAWI: All is Set for the 18th AMECEA Plenary

The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) is set to host the 18th AMECEA Plenary after all the necessary preparations have taken place; the conference is ready to receive delegates from Monday next week.

At the Secretariat of the Conference, several meetings for the plenary preparations have been going on, in order to make sure that everything is progressing according to the plan.

According to Fr Buleya the preparation committee is left with one big event of fund raising. “We are organizing the last fundraising Dinner to be held at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) on Friday evening of 11th July 2014. The event is going to be blessed by the presence of His Grace Tarcisio Ziyaye, the Bishop of Lilongwe and the Chairman of AMECEA. The fundraising dinner is going to attract about 300 participants including the AMECEA Secretariat staff who are already in Lilongwe to give a hand to the preparation committee. 

Information received from fundraising subcommittee said that they are expecting to raise about 6 Million Malawi Kwacha (about USD 15,000) from the event.

Fr Buleya also said that there will be  a last meeting of the main committee which has members from all the dioceses on Saturday 13th, 2014.  “The members will also bring funds raised locally from their respective dioceses," he said.

Speaking to AMECEA Online News, the Chairman of Communications and Publicity Committee Mr Raph Iseka said that the committee has organized several media events before and  during the event. These include the running of advertisements to publicize the event in the local media and international online agencies.

“We are already running some programs with the Catholic radio stations: Radio Maria Malawi, Radio Alinafe of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe and Radio Tigabane of Mzuzu diocese,” he said adding that "We are also running publicity event on Catholic TV of Malawi, Luntha TV."

Mr Iseka said that already some interviews on radio and TV have been started where people are given a chance to phone to the radio stations and TV for more clarifications. “Apart from this, we will have press conference before and after the plenary, while also giving press briefing everyday, and a live broadcasting during the opening and closing Mass of the plenary,” he said.
