Pope Francis has appointed the new Archbishop of Juba Most Rev. Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla as Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Torit.
In a decree from the Holy See which was in St Theresa’s Cathedral Kator in Juba on Sunday March 22, Pope Francis says that as Apostolic Administrator, Most Rev. Ameyu “will work with full faculties for pastoral governance, until the appointment of new bishop to the vacant Diocese.”
The Vatican’s Charge’ d’Affair in Juba Monsignor Mark Kadima revealed that the new bishop of Torit will be appointed in the near future to lead the faithful in Diocese. He therefore advised Christians of Torit to mention Archbishop Stephen Ameyu during masses and other prayers.
The Apostolic Nuncio to South Sudan Archbishop Hubertus Matheus Maria van Megen who was not able to attend the installation due to the travel restrictions over Coronavirus in Kenya, has expressed his gratitude to the people of Juba and South Sudan for their love for the Church and their faith in God.
Monsignor Mark Kadima read the message of Pope Francis and of that of the Apostolic Nuncio to South Sudan.
Meanwhile, the Catholic bishops of the Sudan and South Sudan have advised religious leaders and the faithful of Juba Archdiocese to open a new page for forgiveness after the installation of Archbishop Stephen Ameyu.

Daniel Adwok Kur and Bishop Emeritus Macram Max Gassis of El Obeid during the installation Bishop Yunnan Trille Tombe the Bishop of El Obeid Diocese appreciated Pope Francis for standing firm with the believers of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba and his love for South Sudan and urged the congregation to start a new life for the pastoral growth and unity of the Archdiocese.
