Rt. Rev Bishop Justin Mulenga of the Catholic Diocese of Mpika who died after an illness in Lusaka’s University Teaching Hospital has been laid to rest at St. Joseph's Cathedral, Mpika Diocese President Edgar Lungu who attended the funeral said he is saddened by the death of Rt. Rev Bishop Justin Mulenga.
The President said the death of the Bishop is shocking and that the nation is grieving with his family and the Catholic Church. “Rt. Rev Justin Mulenga has served God with distinction having been ordained priest in 1993,” President Lungu said.
The President added that the late Bishop encouraged his flock to believe in Christ who is the source of all wisdom and understanding and motivated young people to respond to various vocations.
On her part, the National Guidance and Religious Affairs Minister Rev. Godfridah Sumaili has described the late Diocese of Mpika Bishop Justin Mulenga as a dedicated leader, who served the Christian community with passion.
Reverend Sumaili said Bishop Mulenga will be remembered for his efforts in making sure that the Catholic Church worked with Government in every aspect. And Lusaka Archbishop Most Rev. Alick Banda said the loss of Bishop Mulenga is a tragedy to the entire Catholic family in Zambia.
Archbishop Banda said Bishop Mulenga was a diligent leader, who dedicated his life to spreading the Word of God across the country.
Bishop Mulenga died in the UTH after an illness on Friday, March 20th, 2020.
