Caritas Zambia and partners have met in Lusaka, 13th December, 2019 to review Zambia’s 2nd Agriculture Policy which was launched in 2016 and runs up to 2020. Caritas Zambia program specialist, Musamba Mubanga has said that the meeting with other partners is to review how the policy has impacted production and productivity.
Ms. Mubanga said that they have also looked at how the vulnerable production of crops have been and how other sector of agriculture like research, and extension services have fared since the launch of the agriculture policy in 2016. After the meeting, recommendations will be made to policy makers.
According 2003 Maputo Declaration which Zambia is part, all governments in Africa are supposed to dedicate 10 percent of the national budget to agriculture sector.
However, over the years, Zambian government has been allocating less that 10 percent of the national budget to agriculture.
