The Holy Father Pope Francis on Thursday, December 12, elevated Rt. Rev. Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla, Bishop of Torit Diocese as the new Archbishop of Juba, taking over from Most Rev. Paulino Lukudu Loro who resignation from the pastoral care of the Archdiocese have been accepted having attained the age of retirement as prescribed by the Canon Law.
Speaking to AMECEA Online News the immediate former President of Sudan and South Sudan Bishops Conference, Rt. Rev. Edwardo Hiiboro Kussala, while thanking God for the blessings and guidance expressed messages of congratulatory and compliment to the Archbishop-Elect.
“I am extremely joyful and happy at this news of the appointment by the Holy Father of this young Bishop. He is a colleague and a friend and I know that we will be able to contribute our best for the Church in South Sudan. I want to assure him of my closeness, prayers, support and collaboration. That all together we can join our hands to bring the people of South Sudan to God,” Bishop Hiiboro expressed.
The Archbishop-Elect Stephen Ameyo is yet to celebrate the first anniversary of his Episcopate having only been appointed Bishop of Torit on 3rd January, this year.

Bishop Hiiboro also thanked the Archbishop Emeritus of Juba Most Rev. Paulino Lukudu Loro for his long service and dedication to the Church in Sudan and South Sudan.
“Archbishop Lukudu is one of those Bishops who have contributed immensely to the growth of faith in our country and even when we were still with Sudan and now South Sudan. He committed himself to serving the people of the Archdiocese of Juba using all his effort and energy. He recently culminated the great service in the centenary jubilee, 100 years of Catholic faith in the Archdiocese of Juba,” Bishop Hiiboro said adding that Archbishop-Emeritus Lukudu is a pillar on which the Archbishop-elect Stephen Ameyu will remain firm to continue building the Church on an already laid down foundation of faith.
“Bishop Amayu will find a well-founded Church in the Archdiocese of Juba and I want to thank Archbishop Paulino for the service well done. I assure him too of my prayers for this new phase in his life that he will continue to be useful as he has always been whenever we seek his advice and moral support.”
