The Archbishop of Lilongwe, Most Rev Tarcisio Ziyaye has urged the parents to ensure that their children are given proper induction to prayers, love to the Church and works of charity especially towards assisting their fellow children suffering in other countries.

Archbishop Ziyaye was speaking during the Holy Childhood Mass at Don Bosco Parish where hundreds of children drawn from all the 37 parishes of the Archdiocese gathered for the event.

He said that the Catholic Church through its leadership recognizes children and it is for this reason that the Holy Father has instituted a Pontifical Missionary Societies (PMS) office to oversee the welfare of
Madam Mary Chilima
children in the Church.

“The Church set aside the Epiphany Sunday to bring together children from all over the world and pray for themselves and those that are suffering from other countries,” he said while telling them that their monetary contribution goes to Rome and the Pope decides where to help other children who are suffering.”

Archbishop Ziyaye told the congregation during Mass that the formation of children relies much on parents hence parents have a greater role to play of caring and teaching them.

Speaking at the same event the wife to the country’s Vice President, Madam Mary Chilima asked the parents to seriously think about the future of their children. “We need to protect them from all forms of abuses including child labor and many more others,” said Madam Chilima adding that “for the country to have good leaders for the Church and country they need to be properly groomed morally and spiritually.”
