Most Rev. Beatus Kinyaiya Archbishop of Dodoma |
Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Dodoma Beatusi Kinyaiya OFM, Cap has received Pallium during the Eucharistic celebration held at Saint Paul of the Cross Cathedral in Dodoma on Wednesday 26, 2015.
Archbishop Kinyaiya becomes the first Archbishop in the country to have received the Pallium in the presence of his faithful.
Speaking during the homily, the Apostolic Nuncio to Tanzania, His Excellency Francesco Padilla said that Pallium signifies his position as a good shepherd in the metropolitan of Dodoma, which includes the dioceses of Kondoa and Singida.
He also said that Pallium is a symbol of unity, love and solidarity and asked Archbishop Kinyaiya to protect his sheep against poverty, hunger, loneliness, wrath and anxiety and take them to greener pastures.
The Apostolic Nuncio said that initially, the celebration of Pallium was normally done at the Vatican in a celebration led by the Holy Father. However, Pope Francis changed the procedure and recommended that Pallium celebrations be conducted locally in their respective Archdioceses led by the Apostolic Nuncio.
Speaking during the same celebrations, Archbishop Kinyaiya urged Tanzanians to shun activities that will undermine their human dignity and democracy as they prepare for the general election in October, 2015. “Do not sell your democratic right by accepting bribes,” he said.
The celebration was also attended by Most Rev Thaddeus Ruwai’chi, Archbishop of Mwanza, Rt. Rev Edward Mapunda of Singida and Rt. Rev Mathias Issuja Joseph, Bishop Emeritus of Dodoma.
Pallium derived from the Roman word pallium or palla is an ecclesiastical vestment in the Catholic Church, originally peculiar to the pope, but for many centuries bestowed by him on metropolitans and primates as a symbol of the jurisdiction delegated to them by the Holy See.
