MALAWI: Catholic Journalists Set to mark 49th World Communications Day

Catholic Journalists from both Church and secular media are set to celebrate the 49th World Communication day, a function to be held in Lilongwe  on Sunday 26 July 2015.

According to Fr. Gabriel Jana, Communication Secretary for Lilongwe Archdiocese, the host of this year's event, all is set to make the event colourful.

"We are almost ready to host the event here in Lilongwe with a number of activities lined up for the event. First and foremost, we shall have the celebration of the Eucharistic to be presided over by His Grace Tarcisio Ziyaye of Lilongwe Archdiocese followed by a number of speeches including that of the Minister of Information, Tourism and Culture, Hon. Kondwani Nankhumwa.

Commenting on the event, the Minister of Information, Tourism and Culture said that Catholic media houses in Malawi have for the past years played a crucial role in advancing socio-economic development of the country through its programmes.

The commemorations which will be based on the theme "Communicating the Family: A privileged Place of Encounter with the Gift of Love" as provided by Pope Francis in his message this year will focus on the importance of embracing the use of social media in the society.

The event will be broadcasted live by Radio Maria Malawi, Radio Alinafe of Lilongwe archdiocese, Tigabane of Mzuzu and Tuntufye Fm  of Karonga diocese while Tv Luntha is set for live transmission of the event.
