The Chairman of Zambia Episcopal Conference Most Rev Telesphor Mpundu has called for the Church to reconsider the place for women in evangelization activities and pastoral planning.
Archbishop Mpundu was speaking during the centenary celebrations of the Daughters of St. Paul (Pauline Sisters) that was held on Saturday 13 June, 2015 at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus in Lusaka, Zambia.
Archbishop Mpundu who is also the Ordinary of the Archdiocese of Lusaka said, “A hundred years ago blessed James Alberione foresaw that bringing women in the evangelisation is paramount. We are missing 50% contribution in the area of evangelisation by diminishing their role of evangelisation in our ministry.”
“The early church is the reminder of such development in a dynamic Church, saying as the church was developing it was not just the apostles but the women too who witnessed to the risen Lord,” he said adding that “In our evangelisation work, it is not man’s world alone; it is the world of humanity when it comes to pastoral work.”
Commending the Pauline Sisters’ media ministry, Archbishop Mpundu called on all to communicate Jesus using any means available. “We have to communicate Jesus, in any way, any means that is there at our disposal. The Pauline sisters are doing exactly that,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, the Superior of Daughters of St. Paul in Zambia Sr. Beatrice Njau, Fsp, said that her congregation is called to be apostles of the word by means of a life transformed into communicating love and mercy toward everyone.
“As Daughters of St. Paul we are called to be ambassadors for Christ. We take advantage of all the technologies of communication, by blazing new trails for the Gospel, by striving to be present at the crossroads and meeting places of humanity so that always more people can get to know and welcome Jesus” Sr. Beatrice said.
