Fr. Ferdinand Lugonzo |
AMECEA Secretary General Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Lugonzo has asked the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) to effectively serve the AMECEA region by being a good model to all the National Catholic Universities.
Speaking at the beginning of Capacity Building Workshop for top management from Catholic Dioceses of Uganda on Tuesday 5th May in Kampala, Fr. Lugonzo said, “CUEA, as the Catholic University of the region has a responsibility to serve the region by collaborating with the National Catholic Universities and by listening to people and agents of evangelization so that we can offer concrete resolutions on what we need to work on.”
Fr. Lugonzo further explained that the objectives of AMECEA, an association of Bishops which have been in existence for 54 years, clearly states that pastoral work cannot be accomplished on an individual level. It is for this reason that this Association of Bishops was founded in order to promote collaboration among bishops; strive to address arising pastoral challenges with a common approach and offer some common solutions to some of the pastoral concerns region is facing.
“It is one way of ensuring that we want to sit together, listen to each other and tell ourselves what to do so that our pastoral work is more effective and bears more fruits,” he said.
Fr. Lugonzo explained that it was against this backdrop that AMECEA Bishops thought it wise to establish the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in order to be a leading University for research and proposing pastoral solutions to arising issues in the region.
“We are happy that as years pass by, almost every Episcopal Conference of AMECEA has established a Catholic University. This is a blessing to the Church in this region,” he said.
Concerning the Capacity Building Program, which is spearheaded by CUEA and coordinated by AMECEA Secretariat Fr. Lugonzo said, “this program is aimed at empowerment of Church leaders with management skills that will make their work effective and efficient.”
The Capacity Building workshop took place in Kampala, Uganda from 5th to 8th May, 2015 and was attended by top management personnel from all the dioceses.
