Fr. Joseph Tumusiime |
Fr.
Tumusiime described a talent as ‘a God-given gift’ that the Catholic youths need
to build a strong foundation on for their future. He urged them to distance themselves
from those who take their talents granted; instead, they must turn these gifts
into a source of livelihood and for promoting church values and norms in
society.
Addressing
the youth at the closure of their four-day youth conference at Nyakahya primary
school on Sunday, September 01, Fr. Tumusiime who doubles as Kasese diocesan
vocation director encouraged the youth to make early preparations for various
vacations in the Church as well as juicy jobs through education, discipline and
fear of God.
He also warned against computer misuse
describing smartphones and the internet as poison if misused.
Dr.
Crispus Kiyonga, the newly appointed Chancellor for Makerere University, has
described as a timed bomb any alcohol and drug-abuse among the youth. He, a
celebrated farmer and exporter from Kasese district, has called for what he
described as practical parenting that would see children guided on income-generating
projects to back their family finances.
Dr.
Kiyonga, a medical doctor who contributed two million shillings to the youth
gathering, said drugs were a slap against one’s health, as well as time and
resource wasting.
Kiyonga who called for emphasis for children to complete school, asked parents to rate chicken and goats under the full care of their sons and daughters as a way of guiding the young people about the importance of promoting income sources.
The
State Minister for National Guidance, Hon Godfrey Kabyanga who contributed 6
million shillings to the gathering, warned the youth against early sex and
marriages but prioritize education he said was the future pillar for improved
livelihoods.
Kasanga
Parish is to host the joint youth conference for greater Kasanga that includes
among others, Kyabikere, Kasanga, Nyakahya and Kabuyiri shrine.
Rev.
Fr. Godwin Kibaba, the Nyakahya youth chaplain, urged believers in Christ to
put their faith into practices for blessings.
