Secretaries General of the Episcopal Conferences of AMECEA have expressed their intention to have a regional celebration of the ‘Year of Consecrated Life.
According to Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Lugonzo, the Secretary General of AMECEA; the idea was deliberated during their first annual ordinary meeting of this year held in Nairobi from 10th -13th February 2015 on which the Secretaries General unanimously wanted to mark the Year of Consecrated Life also as a regional Event.
“We shall organize a regional workshop where all the stakeholders will be invited to discuss better ways of collaborations between clergy and the religious as they carry out their apostolate in the region,” Fr. Lugonzo explained.
Fr Lugonzo also said that in their meeting, apart from discussing on the follow-up of the implementation of the 18th AMECEA Plenary Assembly on which they expressed their commitment to the implementation of the plenary resolutions; the Secretaries General expressed their solidarity with the Church in Malawi and has prayed for the victims of the floods.
“We are encouraging all the Member Conferences to reflect on ways on how they can offer some humanitarian help which is urgently needed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Secretaries General expressed their appreciations to the Holy Father, Pope Francis for elevating the Chairman of AMECEA H.E. Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel, CM, Archbishop of Addis Ababa to the status of Cardinal.
As they join him in prayer on that very day, they promised to journey with him as he executes his role as a Cardinal in the Catholic Church and the Chairman of AMECEA.
The Secretaries General have also congratulated Most Rev. James Odongo, Archbishop Emeritus of Tororo who will be celebrating his Golden Jubilee of Episcopate on 22nd February. Archbishop Odongo was a chairman of AMECEA between 1973 and 1979.
“We give thanks to God for his service to AMECEA and pray with him as he celebrates his Jubilee,” Fr. Lugonzo said.
