Catholic Diocese of Ndola’s bishop, Rt. Rev. Benjamin Phiri, says Catechesis is the centre of the Church’s life.
Bishop Phiri said this when he celebrated a Thanksgiving Mass in the Cathedral of Christ the King, on Saturday, 20th November, 2021 in Ndola district to mark the graduation of 63 from a Vatican accredited Catechetical Institute.
Two of the 63 catechists died after completing the course but graduated posthumously.
"Catechesis is the centre of the Church’s life. As Catechists, give correct instructions to the people of God. Don't mislead them, don't add what is not there," Bishop Phiri said.
"The deposit of the faith in the Catholic Church subsists in the Doctrine of the Church itself. You cannot create something new or start adding on your own. I cannot do that either, neither can the Pope. The deposit of the faith is well guarded. Therefore, give correct instructions so that people may learn the truth about God, about the Church and about living the Christian life."
"When I see certain behaviours in the social and political life of our baptized Christian, I get very worried. Sometimes I see people campaigning to have a position in the Christian Community or in the Apostolic group and fighting to have positions. I wonder: does this person know what they are asking for," Bishop Phiri added.
On his part, the Diocesan Catechetical Manager Rev. Fr. Ephraim Mapulanga declared the graduates ready for the task ahead after undergoing the intensive catechetical formation.
