Catholic Relief Service (CRS) has pledged to continue supporting AMECEA as it implements a strategy to respond to the Apostolic Exhortation Africae Munus in the region.
Addressing the 18th AMECEA Plenary delegates in Lilongwe on 19thJuly 2014, the President and Chief Executive Office (CEO) of CRS Dr Carolyn Woo said the theme of the plenary: “The New Evangelization through the conversion and Witnessing to Christian Faith is timely and also relevant to the organization.
“Bearing witness to our faith, especially among the most disadvantage among us, is a central component of the core mission of Catholic Relief Services,” she said adding that “Our strategy is designed to strengthen our collaboration with AMECEA members as together we serve the poor and vulnerable.”
Dr Woo said that CRS staff already collaborated with AMECEA in the evaluation of what was
accomplished since the release of AfricaeMunus,and in the development of AMECEA’s new strategic plan. “I look forward to learning more about your new 10 year plan and I commit continued technical, logistical and financial support to you as we have provided in the past,” she said.

The president said that CRS is aware of the challenges that face the people of the AMECEA region, including intra and inter states conflicts, religious extremism, climate induced food insecurity,high youth unemployment, human trafficking etc.
“If they remain unaddressed, these threats could all-too-quickly reverse the progress made so far,” she said adding that “We have the privilege of supporting projects implemented in many Dioceses across the AMECEA region and we assure you of our continued collaboration and accompaniment in the spirit of Pope Benedict XVI’s Muto Proprio on Charity and the 2012 Kinshasa Declaration of the African Bishops.
