SOUTH SUDAN: Over 2000 people Displaced in Mukaya

Over 2,000 people have been displaced in the former Mukaya County of Defunct Yei River state during the week.

Former Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare Awate Esther explained that there are many people sheltering at Gezira Internally Displaced People (IDPs) site, and that the displace lack food and non-food items to prevent their children from starving to death.

Commenting on the same, one of the elders of the Mukaya community who is also Former Minister of Cooperatives and Rural Development Bullen Amos Soro said that for two days, they have been receiving a big number of citizens at Gezira IDPs site with unknown reason.

The community elder says they are looking for intervention in order to help the displaced with food and none food items.

Meanwhile, Paul Igga, a Water, Sanitation and Health (WASH) officer of South Sudan Development Organization explained that a total of 1,732 people and 333 households have received none food items including soap jerry cans and buckets.

Speaking during an interview on Radio Easter last Friday, the Yei State Administrator Amule Felix Sosten has expressed regret that the displacement of people is taking place at a time when the young nation is also fighting the Coronavirus pandemic.

He further explained that Yei is still not safe from the militant group National Salvation Front (NASF) forces.

He mentioned about the abduction of over 107 citizens during from 23rd to 27th of March by the forces.

Amule appeals for humanitarian support to the vulnerable IDPs especially the elderly, women and children.
