Procession to Launch Year of the Word of God in Mangochi

Bishop Montfort Stima of the Diocese of Mangochi in Malawi urges Catholics in the Diocese to consider bringing the Word of God into their lives and families as a way of expressing their gratitude for the graces God has ushered on them.

“Children, demand from your parents and guardians that the Bible be brought into your homes. Parents, make an effort to buy a Bible for your homes. Read the ‘Word’, listen to it, reflect on, share it with your family members and demonstrate that the Word of God is a living word,” Bishop Stima said.

December 1st 2019 which was First Sunday of Advent marking the beginning of a new liturgical year coincided with the World AIDS Day whose theme was “Communities Make a Difference.” Dioceses in Malawi celebrated the two events together.

In the Diocese of Mangochi, a multitude of Catholics covered a kilometre distance in procession with the Holy Bible from Mangochi Stadium to St. Augustine Cathedral where a High Mass was celebrated, presided by Bishop Montfort Stima.

In an interview with a Radio Maria journalist Bishop Stima said that the year of the Word of God is celebrated under the theme ‘The word of God is the path of my life’(psalm 101: 135). During the year, Catholics are encouraged to participate in some outlined activities related to the Word of God which are scheduled systematically so as to reflect the seasons of the liturgical year.
