SOUTH SUDAN: National Health Delegation Visits Yei State on Ebola Preparedness

A high delegation from the Ministry of Health and partners visited Yei River on Monday to discuss about Ebola preparedness in the State. The Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Makur Matur Koryom, says they are working hard to ensure the disease does not reach South Sudan, Radio Easter reports.

The international community has demonstrated willingness to support preparedness and prevention activities with regard to the virus spreading to other countries.

Acting Governor of Yei River State Yusto Baba Dema has called upon the opposition group to allow the establishment of the screening points of Ebola in their controlled areas.

According to a World Health Organization (WHO) statement on July 11, there is Ebola outbreak in Arua District of Uganda near DR Congo border so much that it is currently stepping up its response to prevent imported cases of Ebola following the case that died on June 30, 2019 in Ariwara Health Zone.

This case is known to have had over 200 contacts, some of whom are in the communities bordering the Arua district. Two suspected cases in the Arua District were reported on July 9, 2019 and both tested negative.

There cumulative number of individuals vaccinated in the district is 811 out of 1092 targeted front line and healthcare workers. After the first reported case in the Ariwara Health Zone on 30 June, no new cases have been observed in that health zone.
