An Extraordinary Missionary Month October 2019 Theological Colloquium has been organized in Zambia and is scheduled to take place at St. Dominic’s Major Seminary.
The Colloquium is a formation theological initiative in view of the Extraordinary Missionary Month of October 2019, called for by Pope Francis. The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) National Director Fr. Edwin Mulandu disclosed the development, saying that the meeting will be held from 29th July to 3rd August, 2019 under the theme: “Proclamation, Sacrament and Christian Witness in Missio Ad Gentes in Africa.”
Fr. Mulandu further revealed that thirteen (13) researchers and speakers drawn from the Churches in the English-speaking Africa will attend.
“Nigeria has 3 researchers participating while Cameroon, Zambia and Malawi have 2 speakers each; Ghana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa have 1 speaker each, “he said.
This meeting is sponsored by the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) International Secretariat and the Congregation for the Evangelization of the Peoples (CEP) under the coordination of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU) International Secretariat.
And Fr. Mulandu says the Theological Colloquium will help revive the missionary spirit in the local churches.
He explained that the meeting will benefit the local churches by offering invigorating deep reflections on the baptismal mandate, the importance of Sacraments and Christian witnessing.
“Am very positive that this Theological Colloquium is a form of animation which will help the faithful, priests and the Religious men and women to rediscover their true missionary zeal. We expect the people of God to be animated and take up a significant role in the missionary life of the Church as baptized Catholics,” he said.
The Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia and Malawi, his Excellency Gianfranco Gallone, is expected to officially open the meeting which will be witnessed by many through live-streaming on the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Facebook page.
