Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) Rev. Prof Stephen Mbugua has disclosed the University’s plan to upgrade the current programs at AMECEA Pastoral Institute (API) in Eldoret to Masters level.

Currently the API offers Diploma in Pastoral Ministry and Management, Diploma in Evangelization and Catechesis, Diploma in Conflict Management and Peacebuilding, Diploma in Cancelling Psychology as well as a Renewal/Sabbatical Program which is strictly a non-academic sabbatical program.

Prof Mbugua who was speaking at CUEA Gaba Campus in Eldoret during the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of AMECEA Pastoral Institute on Saturday, May 18, said that following the Bishops' directive on the kind of programs they would like to see offered at API, the University Senate has approved the relevant Diploma programs for the institute.

“Discussions have been going on with regards to upgrading the Diploma in Pastoral Ministry and Management to the Masters level. The Masters programs are in the process of development and once approved by the regulatory body, participants will benefit from these higher education programs that will further equip them for the future ministry,” Prof Mbugua explained.

He therefore appealed to the CUEA Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Charles Kasonde who is also the Chairman of AMECEA to request the AMECEA Bishops and beyond to send more clergy and Religious to API in order to spur the institute’s growth.

“The principle of continuous improvement is our stronghold. We continue to pray for our Institution and we thank God for its great achievements. God bless all of you for who have been part of the great milestone and part of the divine providence of our 50 years,” Prof. Mbugua said.

Additionally, Prof Mbugua thanked all the AMECEA Fathers, past and present for their sacrifice, contributions and commitment to make the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, the API and all their programs to be world class as he promised that they shall endeavour to do so. He also thanked the staff of CUEA Gaba and API for the wonderful commitment and their diligence in making the program shine among the lips of the universities in Kenya and beyond.
