CUEA: A World Class University that Produces Transformative Leaders

The Catholic University of Eastern Africa-CUEA whose Mission is to promote excellence in research, teaching and community service by preparing morally upright leaders based on the intellectual tradition of the Catholic Church is already a leading regional and international University with a rich diversity: over 20 nationalities and 100+ programmes on offer.

Founded on the philosophy of the Catholic Higher Education which stresses on free academic search for truth about nature, humanity and God, CUEA promotes exploration in every discipline as inspired by Him who is The Way, the Truth and the Life (Jn 14:6). The University’s conviction is that the Spirit of the Lord enables human beings, through the development of their intelligence and talent, to find meaning in life.

CUEA Lecture Halls
With a heritage of 34 solid years of offering education grounded on values as per the Catholic hallmark, CUEA embodies a clear learning path from Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Masters and Doctoral courses. The University has 2 Institutes; a Centre for Social and Ethics; and 6 Faculties.

These faculties includes that of Theology – Catholic Higher Institute of Eastern Africa established in 1984 . It became Faculty of Theology in 2000 under the directive of the Holy See. The others are Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences established in 1989; School of Business, which is now Faculty of Commerce established in 2003; Centre for Social Justice & Ethics also established in 2003; the Faculty of Education established in 2005; Faculty of Science was established in 2003 while the Faculty of Law was established in 2007.

CUEA’s Institute of Canon Law was founded in 2011 by AMECEA and approved by the Congregation for Catholic Education at the Holy See to grant ecclesiastical degrees in Canon Law. It is aggregated to the Faculty of Canon Law at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome. As such, it remains under the general supervision of the Faculty of Canon Law of Urbaniana University.

The Institute for Regional Integration and Development (IRID) is a specialist inter-disciplinary graduate institute for research and training in regional integration and seeks to play a more assertive role in bringing the academia closer to industry through engaging in applied research, management consultancy, repository and advisory services for regional integration.

CUEA’S Pope Paul VI Learning Resource Centre that hosts the university’s Bishop McCauley Memorial Library and an 800-seater auditorium has been recognized as one of the greenest buildings in Africa. The centre is equipped with high speed internet connectivity and huge electronic and physical resources. CUEA library has won Maktaba awards as the best library in Kenya for four years–2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017. In addition, the CUEA Press is a fully-fledged publishing house that offers publishing services to the University and other external authors.
