Kenya's Chief Justice and President of the Supreme
Court Hon. Justice David K. Maraga, EGH delivering
his keynote speech at CUEA's 37th
Graduation Ceremony

Speaking at the 37th Graduation Ceremony of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa-CUEA where he was the chief guest, Kenya’s Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court, Hon. Justice David K. Maraga EGH, has urged the graduands to go forth and give back to the society positive values and academic achievements by positively touching the lives of the people, especially the poor in society.

“Catholic University is deemed to be one of the top seven universities in the region and it provides benchmarking opportunities to other African Universities,” the Chief Justice said adding that CUEA has indeed demonstrated its dedication to entrenching values in many ways beginning with its motto, “Consecrate them in the Truth”and its marketing slogan “Education grounded on values”.

The President of the Supreme Court in Kenya affirmed that CUEA is a strong champion of ethics in education and professionalism. This is owed to the fact that CUEA has chosen to lead in integrating ethics in education by having its senior staff trained as trainers by Globethics.netFoundation, so that they too can train other Universities’ staff on the same.

“Having graduated from a University that is such a prominent champion of values, ensure that you do not leave behind what you have learnt,” he said, urging the graduands to uphold the mission, vision and values of CUEA as they settle in the job market as employees, and even as they eventually become employers.

Chief Justice Maraga advised the graduands to adhere to professional excellence; to live a value-based-life; and to be of service to God. He cautioned that getting a degree should not be the end of education but rather embracing one’s purpose in life, which means pursuing the things that one’s professional obligations lead to.
