The Zambian Government through the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs has invited the Zambia Episcopal Conference and other faith based organisations to sit on a committee to end child marriages in Zambia.

The Committee has been tasked to come up with a strategy to end child marriages. Making the invitation Friday, 30th November, 2015, the National End Child Marriages Coordinator Peter Mucheleka said that the Church is cardinal in the ending of child marriages in Zambia.

“We made an invitation to ZEC, and other faith based organisation so that they help us in curbing child marriages. We shall be writing formally to you”, he said at the Ending Child Marriages Coordinating Meeting, which was held in Lusaka, Friday, 30th October, 2015.

Meanwhile Zambia will, on November 26th to 27th, host the End Child Marriages Summit in Lusaka.

The Summit, which is supported by the African Union, will attract the participation of Presidents, First ladies and other high level delegates from some of the African countries.
