Head of the English Speaking Africa Section of the Aid to the Church-in-Need (Kirche-in-Not), from Germany, Mr. Tony W. Zender, together with Mr. David Jones, Programs Director at Catholic Radio and Television Network (CRTN), a subsidiary of Kirche-in-Not on Monday 19th October, visited and met with Heads of Departments at AMECEA Secretariat in Nairobi.

The aim was to foster personal relationships as well as to deliberate on how to collaborate more in the future.

Speaking to AMECEA Online News after their meeting, Mr. Zender said that the purpose of their visit was to foster personal relationships between the two organizations. “We’ve been collaborating with AMECEA for quite long and that now we want to see how we can work together on pressing issues like radicalization which is currently rampant in the East Africa region,” said Zender.

Zender also said that one of the important missions of their visit was on family projects by the Catholic Church in Kenya especially to enquire about the plan to open the English Speaking Africa John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family Life. Since the Institute failed to be opened in Zambia, as was initially planned, there is a process of consultation the Bishops of AMECEA to help in identifying an alternative Conference or diocese in the Region.

During the meeting the Heads of Department discussed and shared the pastoral priorities of the
Church in the AMECEA region in line with the Pastoral Strategic Plan (2014-2024). Among the main areas of priority is the setting up of the Office for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the AMECEA Secretariat.

The Communication Coordinator Rev Fr Chrisantus Ndaga shared with them that this new initiative is aimed at promoting the presence of the message, teachings and pastoral initiatives of the Bishops of AMECEA online.

During the two weeks of the visit in Kenya, the two managed to visit a number of Dioceses: that is, Mombasa, Malindi, Lodwar, Kitui, Isiolo, Kisumu and Homa Bay. They also visited St Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary, and KCCB Secretariat.

According to the CRTN Programs Director Mr. David Jones the visit helped them to capture some images in the country which explain how the Church collaborate with stake holders in the provision social as well as pastoral services.

The Catholic Radio and Television Network (CRTN), a Subsidiary of Kirche-in-Not produces documentaries or short format programs which are broadcast on Catholic Televisions and Radio around the world where they have fund raising offices.
