On 15 October 2015, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, appointed Rt. Rev. Titus Joseph Mdoe, Titular Bishop of Bahanna and Auxiliary of the Archdiocese of Dar-es-Salaam as Bishop of Mtwara Diocese.
According to the information posted by Vatican Information Service (VIS), Bishop Mdoe succeeds Bishop Gabriel Mmole, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same Diocese upon reaching the age of retirement, was accepted by the Holy Father.
Diocese of Mtwara has an area of 7,780, population 884,000, Catholics 75,800, priests 41 and religious 306.
Bishop Mdoe was appointed Auxiliary Bishop on 16/02/2013 and consecrated on 01/May/2013 as Titular Bishop of Bahanna and Auxiliary Bishop of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
