The AMECEA Executive Board Members led by the Chairman, H.E. Eminence Berhaneyesus D. Cardinal Souraphiel, C.M., Archbishop of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia together with the Archbishop of Nairobi and AMECEA Chairman of Finance Committee H.E. John Cardinal Njue, were very satisfied with the progress of construction work of AMECEA Commercial Complex that was launched in May this year.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Board, Cardinal Berhaneyesus said, “It was a great joy to go back to the site after the ground breaking ceremony and witness the marvelous work of construction going on.”
Previously before going to the site, Cardinal Berhaneyesus told AMECEA Online News that the
management of the construction had briefed the Executive board members on the construction progress and that 5% of the project has been done. This involves mainly digging of the basement, which will serve as car park area.

“We were informed that AMECEA Secretariat has fully handed over the site to the construction management and that all the necessary documentations have been signed. We are also happy that AMECEA Secretariat has given the construction management a space to build their own office and storage for construction material,” Cardinal Berhaneyesus said adding that what they saw at the site is a sign of good progress.
He also said that following their interactions with the construction management team, so far there has been no major problems encountered during the digging of the basement which is expected to end by November 2015 so that the foundation can be laid.
He suggested that during the laying of the foundation, something symbolic for the association should be done and led by the Archbishop of Nairobi, H.E. Cardinal Njue. “Secretariat should get the flags of all AMECEA member countries and probably some few copies of initial documents of AMECEA and put in a preservative container and bury them in the foundation of the complex, to signify the Founding Fathers of the Association,” he said.
“The next AMECEA Board meeting will be in May 2016 and we are hopeful that the basement
will have been completed by then and pillars for the walls erected,” he said.AMECEA Commercial Complex, which is the first one of its nature since the inception of AMECEA in the year 1961, will be an income generating entity for AMECEA and is comprised of furnished apartments, a supermarket, shops, and offices.
The AMECEA Executive Board Members have been in Nairobi from 22nd November for their ordinary meeting. The Board Members usually meet twice in a year to deliberate on the general issues affecting the AMECEA Region as well as to facilitate the running of secretariat and implementations of AMECEA Plenary Assembly Resolutions.
