According to the Justice Peace and Caritas Department Coordinator, Antony Mbandi, the meeting which took place in Nairobi, Kenya on 22nd September 2015 wanted to strategize on how AMECEA can engage better with the conferences in providing technical assistance.
“This was the first meeting after the department was expanded to include the activities and operations of Caritas AMECEA,” he said adding that “During the meeting suggestions were made that, in the interest of AMECEA Region, a closer working relationship between Justice Peace and Caritas Department of AMECEA and National Caritas offices must be established.”
The meeting therefore came up with a proposed structure for the collaborations, which was presented to AMECEA Executive Board for approval and ratification. “The feedback from the AMECEA Executive Board will be communicated to the Regional Conferences at a later date by AMECEA Secretary General Fr. Ferdinand Lugonzo,” he said.
Mr. Mbandi said that another meeting that will bring together the National Caritas Directors and National Justice and Peace Executive Secretaries will be organized in February 2016.
Concerning the Implementation of the Papal Encyclical LaudatoSi, Mr. Mbandi said that during the meeting they have agreed to work with the organizers of the land grabbing conference which is scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya in November 2015 to raise awareness on the Papal Encyclical.
Mr. Mbandi described the meeting between his department and the National Caritas Directors as the beginning of a great collaboration, which will see the region move to the next level. He said that the meeting which was made possible through financial support from the Catholic Agency for Oversees Development (CAFOD) was attended by representatives from all AMECEA Conferences including Eritrea and South Sudan.
