The Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) Pastoral/Liturgical Department has organized a workshop on digital technology for evangelization to women catechists and religious held at Kisubi - Entebbe, Uganda from September 17 to 18, 2015
The two-day workshop ran under the theme of, “Empowering Women catechists for New Evangelization,” aimed at acknowledging, appreciating and supporting the active presence of women in the church.
“Catechists are specialists in evangelization, direct witnesses and irreplaceable pastoral agents,” Fr Timothy Ssemogerere, the UEC Pastoral/Liturgical Head of Department said adding “Consequently, their initial and ongoing formation, welfare and social security should and must be given the attention it deserves.”
He added that the church at the universal level has taken the pastoral care of the family very serious by dedicating both the Extraordinary and Ordinary Synods of Bishops slated for October 2015 to the pastoral care of the family. “Majority of the women catechists are mothers and they can do a lot in improving the lives around them,” he explained.
The topics covered during the workshop included; a presentation on digital technology and new evangelization in view of promoting model Catholic families in the society; formation as the basis for catechizing and spirituality.
The department plans to organize similar workshops twice every year to ensure women catechists remain relevant in the church and family by using digital technology.
