AMECEA region has been privileged to host Pope Francis after the Vatican on Thursday confirmed his visit to Kenya and Uganda, as he makes his first trip to Africa, upon accepting the invitation issued by the respective Heads of State and the local Bishops.
According to news posted in the Vatican website (news.va) quoting Vatican Radio, Pope Francis will visit Kenya from 25 to 27 November 2015 and Uganda from 27 to 29 November. Pope Francis will also visit the Central African Republic from 29 to 30 November 2015. “The programme of the trip will be published in due course,” read the statement.
In Uganda; the letter confirming the Holy Father’s visit was released on Thursday at exactly 1pm in Kampala city, by the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, His Excellency Michael August Blume, in a communication made by the Secretary General at the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC), Msgr. John Baptist Kauta.
“I am happy to inform you about the following message from the Holy See,” said Msgr. Kauta through a special announcement at Radio Sapientia, a Ugandan Catholic Radio. He further read the communication from the Holy See which stated: “Welcoming the invitation of the respective Heads of State and of the Bishops, His Holiness Pope Francis will undertake an Apostolic Voyage in Kenya from November 25 to 27, Uganda from November 27-29 and the Central African Republic from November 29-30.”
In Kenya, already some preparations have started and that some joint meetings between the KCCB and the government are going on.
The confirmation came as a relief to the Catholic faithful of both Uganda and Kenya who have been eagerly waiting for the confirmation.
