The Communication and Publicity Subcommittee of Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) has set some strategies ahead of Pope Francis’ visit to Kenya scheduled in November this year.
Speaking to AMECEA Online News, the Communication Coordinator for KCCB, David Omwoyo said that a special website for Papal visit will be launched in the next few days. At the same time a Logo for the visit has been designed and is just waiting to be launched at a date which will be announced soon.
Mr. Omwoyo further said that the logo has 4 significant images that go hand in hand with the theme: “Stand strong in Faith…Do not be afraid”. The four items in the logo include the Dove which signifies peace, the flame which signifies the Holy Spirit the map of Kenya and the Cross which is a symbol for the Church.
He said that before the papal visit to Kenya, the subcommittee has designated some activities which include the profiling of unique social and humanitarian projects which are run by the Catholic Church in Kenya and which will be broadcasted via TV stations. “There will be a lot of media coverage for publicity sake during this time” he said.
He said that KCCB and the government will jointly set accreditation desk for journalists who wished to cover the event. “Strictly, only those accredited by the office will be allowed to cover the event,” he said adding that “All the information will be available in the website for anybody who wants to access the desk.”
Mr. Omwoyo said that the subcommittee has set a plan of having live coverage of all the big events during the Papal visit. Apart from live coverage, other main stream media will also have the chance to report the event.
Pope Francis is expected to visit Kenya from 25 to 27 November this year.
