The Catholic Church in Kenya continues to oppose measures that do not promote family life by either seeking to redefine or to erode the meaning of marriage or family.

Speaking during the launch of the National Family Life Policy in Mombasa on 2nd, September, 2015, The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) –National Family Life Program Chairman Rt. Rev. Salesius Mugambi advised Catholic Ecclesial Movements and people of goodwill not to succumb to the pressures of a culture that undermines the family, but strive to build a culture that honors and promotes life.

Bishop Mugambi trusts that while fulfilling the mandate of Christ, “You shall be my witnesses” the Policy will stimulate Diocesan Family Life Coordinators and all the stakeholders to journey with the families to evangelize in promoting sanctuaries of love and life.

He urged families to be at the forefront of ensuring that laws and institutions of the state support and defend the rights and duties of the family by backing up sound legislation family policies.

“The Family is an image of the Holy Trinity that signifies the love of God for humanity. As a visible sign of this love, the family becomes the venue per excellence for the transmission of life, faith and training in values and virtues.” He emphasized.

In addition, Mugambi who is the Bishop of Meru stressed that the Family is a gift of God that originates from the union between a man and a woman.

The Catholic Bishops of Kenya have been instrumental in forming families to be sanctuaries of love and life through journeying with them to grow as a community of love.

Many Catholic and non-Catholic families have also benefited from the services and trainings offered countrywide in family life formation. Key instructors have been trained both locally and internationally on family life matters.

This initial Policy was necessitated by the need to offer clear guidance to the Dioceses on the management on family apostolate.

The Policy whose vision is “Witnessing Christian Family Life” was produced under the leadership of The Family Life National Coordinator Mrs. Theresa Abuya, and was issued out to Family Life Program Diocesan Coordinators by Bishop Mugambi during the occassion.
