Daystar University Council Recruitment Committee on 31st August, 2015 promoted a Catholic Nun to the post of Associate Professor in Communications. Sr. Agnes Lucy Lando was among three senior lecturers that were interviewed and elevated.

Between June 1999 and May 2000 Rev. Sr. Agnes Lucy Lando was Secretary of Communications Department at AMECEA Secretariat in Nairobi

Sr. Prof. Agnes Lucy Lando obtained her PhD in Social Communication from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, in April 2008. “As I give thanks and glory to God for thus far He has brought me, I’m praying and asking Him that He grants me the grace of humility and deep love for the church so that I may use the position and opportunity to love and serve Him more dedicatedly, amidst the various challenges that come with the title,” said Sr. Lando.

She joined Daystar University in August 2008, and is also the Assistant Head of Communication Department. Among the courses she teaches are Doctoral Colloquium, Communication and Media Theory, Communication Ethics, Crisis Communication, Media Management, Advanced Audio-Visual Productions, Human Communication and Intercultural Communication.

“One of my greatest joys is to see my colleagues and students grow to my level or even surpass me. That’s why I enjoy academic mentoring and guiding students and emerging scholars to write academic papers and make presentations of the same in reputable national, regional and international academic conferences,” said Sr. Prof. Lando.

Sr. Prof. Lando is a perpetually professed member of the institute of the Sisters of Mary of Kakamega. “This is very significant for me. I love my vocation and that’s why my first title is sister. I know that I’m in Daystar University as a Sister Professor. And thus a lot more is expected of me.”

Between 2009 and 2013, Sr. Lando was the director of Ukweli Video Production, a non-profit Faith Based media production center founded in May 1981 as one of the first Christian professional centers in Africa by a Maryknoll Missioner, Fr. J. Richard Quinn.

Ukweli Video Production is currently under Waumini Communications Limited of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops KCCB.
