The training is expected to bring 40 participants from the 11 Catholic Dioceses in the country.

Lecturers from the Zambia Catholic University (ZCU) and a team from the AMECEA Secretariat/CUEA will facilitate the training program. Among the topics to be covered include Leadership and Management in Church Institutions; Human Resource Management; Strategic Pastoral Planning; Investment in Church Institutions; Conflict Resolution; Entrepreneurship and Pastoral Communication.

Each Arch/Diocese is expected to send four participants, including the following or their representatives: Vicar General, Treasurer or Procurator General, Pastoral Coordinator, and Bishop's or Administrative Secretary.

So far, AMECEA has done similar capacity building training to all other AMECEA Conferences except ZEC and Eritrea.

According to Ms. Christine Mbugi, coordinator of the program, the possibility of conducting a similar training to Eritrean Conference will be discussed at a meeting between Vice Chancellors of Catholic Universities from AMECEA Conferences, Secretaries General from AMECEA Conferences and the AMECEA Secretariat. The meeting is scheduled for 7th– 10th October 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Key benefits of this Capacity Building program which is supported by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) includes supporting the Bishops in capacity building to establish and maintain an effect, diverse and motivated workforce at diocese level to ensure excellence in support of the region’s pastoral outreach by empowering all the parts of the region.

Other benefits include building capacities in leadership and management across the dioceses/jurisdictions of the Church in the conferences, thus strengthening their professionalism, in leadership and communication skills and also to create some kind of uniformity in the management of Institutions and affairs of the Church Institutions within the region as well as pooling of resources for income generating projects.
