Rt. Rev. Joseph Obanyi, Bishop Chairman Communications Commission KCCB |
Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) through its Commission for Social Communications/Waumini Communications, plan to have twenty Radio stations spread throughout the country by 2020 in order to evangelize widely to the 12 million faithful in the country.
This has been envisaged in the just concluded strategic plan 2016-2020 dubbed “WAUMINI.COM 2020” that has been founded on past gains, lessons from the challenges of the present, and that seeks to create a sustainable, strategic and innovative future for Waumini Communications.
The Strategic Plan creates a road map towards facilitating the development of a robust countrywide community media and ICT sector in line with KCCB and County’s development strategy and policies.
Addressing communication Coordinators and Radio Managers at St. Mary’s Pastoral Centre in Nakuru County on 30th August, 2015, Chairman for Commission for social Communications and the Bishop of Kakamega Rt. Rev. Joseph Obanyi said the document is a fruit of a wider consultation and participation and thought of people with massive experiences.
Bishop Obanyi believes that the Strategic Plan which is yet to be endorsed would not remain a paper document, but will be implemented. He congratulated the team that put the document together for the tremendous efforts made with a desire to see a vibrant catholic community media.
“We want to see spiritual and social transformation of people, we want to see integral transformation of the human person,” he said adding that he was confident that the document will guide the Church for the next five years and beyond.
Since the establishment of a full time office in 2012, Waumini Communications has become a tool of evangelization and community mobilization. It has expanded its reach to more than five million people in Kenya mainly through its seven active community radios spread across Catholic Dioceses in the country.
