SOUTH SUDAN: Bishop of Tombura-Yambio Launches a Book on Reconciliation

Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio Rt. Rev Edward Hiiboro has launched his book titled ‘Reconciliation, Healing and Peace’ on 16 July 2015 in Juba – A reflections on the way forward of the country. 
 
Opening the launching event organized by the institute for Applied Research and Community Outreach of the Catholic University of South Sudan, Bishop Hiiboro said that God created people to live in peace and therefore prayed for all citizens of South Sudan to work for peace in the country.
 
According to the Bishop Hiiboro, the book presents his personal experience in the field of peace and reconciliation in the country; and speaks about restorative and compensative justice.
 
In the preface to the book, late Bishop Joseph Gasi, Emeritus Bishop of Tombura-Yambio, stated that the book may be a useful tool to promote a culture of peace, which is the key element to ensure implementation of any peace agreement in South Sudan.
 
Bishop Hiiboro leads the reader to understand the cost of war for each South Sudanese, the collective responsibility towards reconciliation, the role and process of negotiations and the meaning of restorative justice. 
 
The book stresses the importance of learning from the experiences of the past so as to avoid repeating tragic mistakes in the future and to preserve the nation for the future generations.
 
He concludes by reminding all that reconciliation is a gift from God and he also explained about the fundamental role of faith in the process.
 
Speaking at the event the Catholic University of South Sudan Vice Chancellor Fr Matthew Pagan hailed Bishop Barani, saying the book reflects the vision of patriotic elders and children to work hard for the future of the country.
 
He said the book gives a way forward for the achievement of integrity and unity of the nation through hardship.
