AMECEA Secretariat on Tuesday 26th May 2015 witnessed a huge milestone in the history of the Association by conducting a ground breaking ceremony of ‘AMECEA Commercial Complex’ which marked the beginning of a project whose mission is to make the Regional Bishops Conference become self-reliant.
The ceremony which was officiated by AMECEA Chairman H.E. Berhaneyesus D. Cardinal Souraphiel was also attended by the AMECEA Chairman of Finance Committee H.E. John Cardinal Njue; The AMECEA members of Executive Board and some members of CUEA Council.
Other dignitaries who attended the ceremony include Most Rev Gabriel Mbilingi, C.S.Sp, the president of SECAM and Metropolitan Archdiocese of Lubango, Angola who was accompanied by SECAM Secretary general Very Rev Joseph Komakoma; partners from CAFOD and CRS.

Cardinal Njue said that the ground breaking ceremony is a wonderful achievement of a project that the Regional Bishops Conference has thought about for quite some time.
The Chairman of AMECEA H.E. Berhaneyesus Cardinal Souraphiel said that the AMECEA Commercial Complex is a gift from God to the people of the region especially the marginalized, the refugees and the less fortunate in the society.

“If AMECEA had funds, it would be able to respond to calls where help is needed. Not only in the region but beyond and abroad,” Cardinal Berhaneyesus said adding that when there was flooding in Malawi, the secretariat had to appeal to other conferences to help and more help is still needed in other AMECEA Countries such as South Sudan where many people are suffering as refugees with all their hopes destroyed.

The complex which is to be developed on a 1.5 acre plot belonging to the Regional Bishops Conference in Nairobi is designed to be a mixed urban development complex comprising of commercial and residential entities and is expected to be completed in two years’ time.
