SOUTH SUDAN: Caritas International gives South Sudan full membership

Caritas International on Wednesday 12th May during its twentieth General Assembly in Rome, Italy, welcomed Caritas South Sudan as its member number one hundred and sixty-five.

Caritas South Sudan Humanitarian Coordinator Joseph Pasquale broke the news to CRN on Friday 15th that Caritas International 136 delegates from the world, unanimously voted in the Catholic Church charity organization of South Sudan as a full member.

According to the Coordinator, Caritas South Sudan was represented by its President Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe and Executive Director Gabriel Yai in the meeting on which they also participated in the voting for the new Caritas International President Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila, Philippines.

Caritas South Sudan was founded in September 2011. However, its members already were working even before the country got independence. Currently, the charity organization is supporting the families which fled violence which are going on in the country with food, shelters and education for their children.
