SOUTH SUDAN: Apostolic Nuncio Urges Christians to Work for Peace

Apostolic Nuncio to South Sudan and Kenya Most Rev Charles Daniel Balvo has asked the people of South Sudan to work for peace as it is the only solution to their difficult situation.

According to Radio Sawt Al Mahabba which resumed its operation recently, the Apostolic Nuncio made this call during his pastoral visit to the Malakal diocese where he celebrated a Sunday Mass on 1 March 2015 at St Joseph’s Cathedral.

Archbishop Daniel Balvo told them that going around in Malakal town and seeing the IDPs at the UNMISS Protection of Civilians Site; he understood the consequences of violence.

The Nuncio assured the people of Malakal that God is there with them in their suffering and that the Vatican authorities are doing all they can with South Sudan political leaders to contribute to the peace process, but that prayers and work for peace are the most important things for the country now.

The Pope’s representative said, “The tough way of forgiveness and reconciliation is what the word of God is asking us to walk”.

UNMISS State Coordinator Deborah Shein said that she was overwhelmed with joy to see the crowd at the Catholic Cathedral as people from the different tribes of Upper Nile came receive the Nuncio gave her hope that peace is indeed possible.
