SOUTH SUDAN: Poverty remains a big Challenge to the Growth of Faith in the Country

The Bishop of Wau diocese Rt. Rev. Rudolph Deng Majak has called on families to support the Church in her evangelization mission despite the challenges of poverty which the young national of South Sudan is facing.

He was speaking after coming back from Khartoum where he attended the Bishops’ Plenary and said poverty was one of the issues on top of the agenda during the plenary in Khartoum.

Bishop Deng Majak said poverty remains a very big Challenge to Christianity in the growing church of South Sudan and it’s affecting the Priests; some of whom have found themselves abandoning priesthood.

He gave his diocese as an example where the number of priests does not correspond with the number of Catholic population which is approximately three million.

Bishop Deng Majak said young people who wanted to become Catechists used to be discouraged after discovering that Church work earns them no money.

He however, called on youths to join the mission work of Jesus Christ and asked the families to support the church in view of having committed laborers who will work for the growth of Faith in their Country.
