AMECEA: CUEA Hosts an International Conference of Catholic Theological Institutions


The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) hosted the 13th General Assembly Conference of Catholic Theological Institutions (COCTI) which started on Tuesday November 4th (Evening) to 7th , 2014 at Lang’ata Campus, Nairobi-Kenya. 

The conference is organized by CUEA’s Faculty of Theology led by the Dean of the Faculty Rev. Prof. Constance Bansikiza and has a theme of “Impacts of the Real Contexts in Doing Theology”.

COCTI is an international association represented by Deans, Directors and Researchers from Theological faculties at various Catholic Universities around the world. Every three years, the General Assembly offers a unique opportunity for Deans and Directors of Catholic Institutions, which are engaged in Higher Education and in research in the field of theological studies, to meet and discuss matters that are related to their academic leadership.

This General Assembly is open to the representatives of all COCTI members and associates, as well as to the heads of any other theological institution that shares the objectives of COCTI.

The main activity of COCTI is to create and maintain a world network, to disseminate information of common use, to encourage the mounting of concerted projects, to collect funds for these activities, especially those that are oriented towards research.

Fr. Febian Pikiti Coordinator of AMECEA Pastoral Department led the delegates in the Eucharistic celebration to open the assembly at the University Chapel. Also present at the conference is Rev. Prof. Marie Courau, O.P. – Paris, France the President of COCTI.

Meanwhile; CUEA has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the American University

from Washington DC.

The MoA, will mainly promote the exchange of students between the two institutions and also promote other forms of academic exchanges between the two institutions.

CUEA was represented by the Vice Chancellor, Msgr. Dr. Pius Rutechura and the American University by the provost, Scott A. Bass at the signing ceremony.

American University is a fully accredited private doctoral institution chartered by an Act of Congress in 1893
