Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) – National Family Life Programme is preparing to hold a walkathon “Family walk for life” on 11th, October, 2014.
The Chairman for National Family Life Programme Rt. Rev. Salesius Mugambi who is also the Bishop of Meru is expected to flag off the walk at the Holy Family Minor Basilica, Nairobi at 7.00 am and also to celebrate Holy Mass shortly after the walk at 12.00 noon.
Some of the issues to be addressed at designated stopovers are abortion/contraception, alcoholism and drug abuse, human trafficking of children, reproductive health and reckless culture of life.
His Holiness Pope Francis and the Church insist that life is sacred, should not be taken away but be protected, hence the call for the walkathon. Furthermore, the World is living in a culture of death, therefore, it is the duty of the faithful to protect life.
His Holiness also calls for all to participate voluntarily, sacrifice, cultivate team spirit and face the responsibility with joy.
Below is the prayer for the event whose theme is “Human Life is Sacred – Let us protect it.”
PRAYER FOR FAMILY LIFE WALKATHON DAY
O God who were pleased to give us the shining example of the Holy Family of Nazareth, graciously grant that we may imitate them in practicing the virtues of family life and in the bonds of charity.
We thank you for the gift of our families and sanctity of life. Bless our parents and children that they may continue making families centers open to life and true avenues of evangelizations. Guide them Lord to be zealous in protecting the family values and promoting true identity of Christian families.
Bless our leaders that they may make laws that respect sanctity of life, and protect it. We humbly request you Lord to grant parents wisdom to instruct their children well that families may become living examples of reconciliation, unity and peace. Father, through the example and inspiration of the Holy Family of Nazareth may our families become holy, united and prayerful.
Accept Lord to bless this day and all the walkers that every Kenyan may know, appreciate and uphold the sanctity of human life. Be with us Lord and grant us the strength to announce your love for human life as a sacred gift.
We ask this through Christ our Lord
