Most Rev. Berhaneyesus, Chairman of AMECEA |
Most Rev. Berhaneyesus D. Souraphiel, Metropolitan Archbishop of Addis Ababa Ethiopia and Chairman of Association of Members Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) will on Monday 29th September, 2014 be installed as the new chancellor for Catholic University of the Eastern Africa (CUEA).
The ceremony which will take place at the University’s Main Campus in Langata Nairobi will be presided over by His Eminence John Cardinal Njue, Patron of AMECEA and Archbishop of Nairobi.
By virtue of his election as chairman of AMECEA during the 18th Plenary Assembly in Malawi, Most Rev. Berhaneyesus also assumed the role of University Chancellor, a position that he will hold for the next four years, up until the next plenary assembly.
The University is also scheduled to hold its first Council meeting since the 18thAMECEA Plenary Assembly in Malawi. The meeting will take place on 29thSeptember to 2nd October at the University’s main campus in Langata Nairobi.
This is the first meeting for the new council members who were appointed during the 18thAMECEA Plenary Assembly in Lilongwe, Malawi.
Rt. Rev. Maurice Muhatia Makumba Bishop of Nakuru (Kenya) was elected Chairman of CUEA Council while other members included Rt. Rev. Sabino Odoki Bishop of Arua (Uganda), Rt. Rev. Abraham Desta Apostolic Vicariate of Meki (Ethiopia), Rt. Rev. Martin Mtumbuka Bishop of Karonga (Malawi), Rt. Rev. Alick Bishop of Ndola (Zambia) and Rt. Rev. Bernadini Mfumbusa Bishop of Kondoa (Tanzania).
On 3rdOctober, 2014, the university will hold its 30th graduation ceremony, which is scheduled to take place at the main campus in Langata. Over 1900 students are expected to graduate.
The guest of honor during the graduation ceremony whose theme is Education for sustainable development in Africa will be Hon. Henry K. Rotich-Cabinet Secretary National Treasury-Kenya.
