The Bishop of the Diocese of Kasese, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale has launched the Kiburara-Kikorongo water flow project with the aim to minimize water borne diseases among community members along the Kikorongo-Bwera highway.The water project funded by Bishop’s friends in the United States will be solar powered from Nyamugasane River near St. John Minor Seminary land in Kiburara in Kisinga subcounty.
The areas has suffered for
decades without safe and clean water which has turned into a health and personal hygiene challenge as residents travel several kilometers to access water.
Addressing the local residents of Kiburara, Bishop Kibira said he was touched during his first pastoral visit to Bwera 2014 when he saw cotton farmers fetching rain water along the road.
Bishop Kibira said he was happy that his dream for clean and safe water to mainly Kiburara community and farmers along Kiburara-Kikorongo- highway had come to a reality.
Rt. Rev. Kibira who calls for a central committee to oversee repairs and maintenance of the project asks for the support of the Kasese RDC and MPs, as well as the district leadership for fare negotiations between his office and Uganda National roads Authority to have the water project extended to Kikorongo.
The Kisinga Subcounty Council Speaker, Hon. Joefrey Bitswatswa described Bishop Kibira as a savior whose efforts for water ought to be owned by the beneficiaries against water borne diseases in the area.
Some of the locals interviewed hailed the Bishop for his social, physical and economic development, saying the water project solved a number of challenges.
Mr. Emmanuel Kasenya, the chairperson LC1 for Kiburara-Rwembya village pledged his official and personal support for the sustainability of the project.Every household will pay one thousand shillings per month (which is a third of a United States Dollar) for maintenance.
