A Bishop in Uganda’s Kasese Diocese has discouraged the teaching of Catechism of the Catholic Church in the English language exclaiming it is against the promotion of local language that children can easily grasped.

Bishop Francis Aquirinus Kibira who presided over the Holy Mass at Our Lady of Assumption Kasese Cathedral Church Tuesday, December 28, during the feast of the Holy Innocents and Martyrs said in his homily that the genesis of the Holy Childhood celebration commenced when Herod the Great, king of Judea, ordered the execution of all male children of two years and below with the intent of killing baby Jesus.

Holy Childhood is one of the four associations in the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) founded about 178 years ago by Bishop Charles de Forbin-Janson.

Bishop Kibira called for plans to empower local leaders in teaching Catechism, insisting that children learn better in their local than foreign languages including English.

During his speech shortly after the Eucharistic celebration, the Local Ordinary of Kasese asked parents and guardians to encourage children to join one of the three Church movements in the Catholic Church including Holy Childhood, the junior legion of Mother Mary, and Xarevian among others.

On a different occasion on Chrismas day, the Bishop cautioned
that no Christian dressed like a model in a beauty contest should attend Church services.

Bishop Kibira said this in his Christmas homily at the diocesan Cathedral headquarters in Kasese town, asking the women to respect their bodies and teach their children the best dressing code in public and before the Lord as they emulate the dressing code of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

According to the Prelate, some women are misinformed that putting on mini-skirts influences men to seek to marry them.

“No normal man would want to marry such a woman,” said the Prelate.

He disclosed that this year 2022, the diocese would embark on community sensitization campaign to promote child welfare, education and combat domestic violence among Christian families.
