KENYA: Kenya’s Bungoma Diocese Receives New Bishop: Monsignor Mark Kadima

The Catholic Diocese of Bungoma, Kenya, has received a new Shepherd Msgr. Mark Kadima who was appointed by Pope Francis Tuesday, December 14, following the transfer of Bishop Norman King’oo Wambua to Kenya’s Machakos Diocese in June 2018.

In a message shared by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), the Apostolic Nuncio in Kenya and South Sudan His Excellency Archbishop Bert van Megen communicated the appointment of the new Bishop-elect saying, “I have the honour and pleasure to inform you that Pope Francis has appointed the Monsignor Mark Kadima as Bishop of Bungoma.”

The Diocese which has been vacant for three years, has been under the leadership of Bishop Joseph Obanyi Sagwe of Kakamega Catholic Diocese who was appointed as the Apostolic Administrator by Pope Francis in June 2018.

Msgr. Kadima a member of the clergy of Kakamega Diocese has been serving as Vatican’s Charge d’Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in South Sudan from July 2018 to September 2021. Prior to his appointment to South Sudan’s Nunciature, the new Bishop-elect worked earlier in various Apostolic Nunciatures including Colombia, Angola, Ghana, Bangladesh, Greece and Brazil.

Since his priestly ordination in 1993, Very rev. Kadima has worked as a parish curate, Rector of minor seminary, Diocesan Coordinator of Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, Diocesan Canon Law Advisor, member of Diocesan Renewal Program Implementation Team of the African Synod, Member of the Board of Governors and Canon Law Society Kenya and member of the Kisumu Metropolitan Ecclesiastical Tribunal.

Speaking to a local media; Capuchin Television shortly after the announcement of his appointment, the Bishop-elect asked for prayers saying, “I thank you all for welcoming me to the Diocese. I request you pray for me, for the Diocese, and for all the people of God so we may succeed in the service.”
