Currently, Caritas Lira Diocese with support from Caritas Norway is implementing key fundamental projects which are vital for human growth and development among the war victims in Lango Sub-region with the hope to initiate inner healing and livelihood recovery.
The projects being implemented are under Food and Nutrition where farmers who are mainly war victims are given tools to plant different categories of vegetables, other crops like Soya beans, in a move to boost and strengthen food security among them.
Apart from food crops, the beneficiaries of the projects are also trained on how to make energy saving stoves with less smoke, given tree seedlings for planting to enable them preserve environment and to combat the erratic consequences of global warming according to Laudato Si, the Encyclical Letter of His Holiness Pope Francis.
Another project being implemented by Caritas Lira Diocese is under Water and Sanitation program, which is a project initiated to empower farmers to access clean water, ensure home hygiene and to promote domestic irrigation for small farming systems during the dry season.
During the visit of the team of delegation from Caritas Norway led by the National Executive Secretary for Caritas Uganda Monsignor Francis Ndamira to Lira Diocese on the 23rd November 2021, the project beneficiaries happily noted that the activities being implemented by Caritas Lira have speedily stimulated economic recovery among them after the bitter experience of insurgency of the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels-LRA in Northern Uganda.
Mr Orama John, a representative of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) thankfully noted that the projects being implemented by Caritas Lira Diocese have greatly supported and improved their livelihood of the community in the area.
He went on to share that the activities being implemented by Caritas Lira have made them to become self –reliant capable to support their siblings in various ways.

In his remarks, Fr Boniface Okori Acuma director Caritas Lira Diocese expressed joy upon the successful outcome of the project implementation in the area, pledging that Caritas will continue to stand in solidarity with the beneficiaries for a better outcome in the future.
Monsignor Francis Ndamira was also grateful to positive changes and livelihood improvement brought by project among the beneficiaries in Lira and the entire Gulu Ecclesiastical Province.
He appealed to Local government leaders in the area to prioritize giving services to the communities so as to enlighten them with the vision for development.
Meanwhile Mr Odongo David Kennedy, the Alebtong district Chairperson who spoke on behalf of the local leaders pledged for total support to communities through various government programs citing the Parish Model Program being initiated under the National Agricultural Advisory Services-(NAADS) to improve the livelihood of the communities.
The Bishop of Lira Diocese Rt. Rev Sanctus Lino Wanok who led the delegation to the project beneficiaries in the areas reaffirmed that through love, Caritas is working to transform the lives of the people holistically.
The Bishop further went on to remind the beneficiaries to embrace the various projects being extended to their localities in a move to improve house hold income, food security and to ensure access to clean water among them.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Ms Kjersi Lindoe, the representative of the Norwegian Ambassador to Uganda pledged to report back to their country great impact of the projects to the beneficiaries to enable them extend implementation of the project.
The operation of psycho-social support and crop production projects funded by Caritas Lira Diocese in the districts of Alebtong, Oyam and Dokolo have been observed with greater positive impact in improving the livelihoods of the communities.
