Mr Arago Patrick the Vice Chairperson Aputi Parish Pastoral Council says opening new parishes being implemented is promoting the spiritual welfare of the lay faithful within Lira Catholic diocese.
According to Arago, opening new parishes within their vicinities is as well set to draw them closer to their spiritual leaders as well as easing access to other Sacraments.
Arago observed that apart from the spiritual nourishment of the Christians, opening of the new parishes will bring along other social developments like schools, health facilities and other multi-purpose recreational centers among others.
Currently Lira Diocese is taking lead in opening new parishes to extend Sacramental services nearer to the lay faithful as well as other social development among the lay faithful in the diocese.
Within the space of two months, three new parishes of St Peter Claver Ober Parish in Lira city, St Luke the Evangelist Aputi Parish in Amolatar district and St Mary Immaculate Parish in Oyam district have been erected to promote spiritual development of the Christians in Lira Diocese.
Apart from the above, plans are underway to erect additional new parishes, the vision observed to promote grassroots evangelization among Christian communities in the Diocese.
In his key message while opening new parishes, Bishop of Lira Diocese Rt. Rev Sanctus Lino Wanok, stresses the need for the Christians to support the newly erected parishes by working in unity with their priests and other pastoral agents to ensure that such parishes are developed and sustained.
