The Catholic Bishop of Tombura Yambio Rt. Rev. Eduardo Hiiboro Kusala Receiving his first Jab of COVID-19 |
Rt. Rev. Bishop Hiiboro reveals that, he was happy to quote the Holy Father Pope Francis who has openly supported and encouraged vaccination throughout the world.
Pope Francis had this to say, “Thanks to God’s grace and to the work of many, we now have vaccines to protect us from Covid-19. The vaccine brings hope to ending the pandemic, but only if we collaborate with God and one another.”
Bishop Hiiboro stated that, many people still fear receiving the vaccine, hoping that by receiving the vaccine himself, he will encourage many people to do the same.
Bishop Hiiboro explained that all adults are now legible and are encouraged to receive the vaccine in the country and that they can also take opportunity of its availability in the neighbouring country Uganda.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the employees in health institutions and all health professionals for their work, caring for people during this pandemic, and now their efforts to facilitate the distribution of the vaccine, elsewhere in the world, here in Uganda and above all in my country the Republic of South Sudan,” Bishop Hiiboro expressed.
Bishop Hiiboro said he was sharing photos of his recent vaccination in the hope of encouraging Catholics and all eligible people in South Sudan to prayerfully consider receiving the vaccine whenever they are available.
In September, during their South Sudan Regional Secretariat, the Bishops of South Sudan affirmed in their Pastoral Statement that receiving certain Covid-19 vaccines is morally acceptable.
He urged scientists, researchers and pharmaceutical companies to use ethical means in the development and ask God to guide the doctors in the world.
“Today, I also want to once again strongly urge all scientists, researchers, and pharmaceutical companies to only use ethical means in the development, research, design, and testing of vaccines. May we continue to rely on Christ for strength and ask him to guide our doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals during this pandemic.”
Hiiboro also encouraged the government of South Sudan and all its partners to make sure that these essential vaccines reach the most vulnerable, right into the villages.
He called on the people of South Sudan and the world at large to remain committed to praying for healing and peace in the nation.
Bishop Hiiboro is the fourth Bishop in South Sudan who has so far received Covid-19 vaccine in the country.
He received the first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine on 17 of October 2021 in Kampala Uganda together with two priests from his Diocese.
