The Catholic Bishop of Tombura-Yambio Diocese received his first jab of Covid-19 vaccine, urging his faithful to prayerfully discern being vaccinated

Rt. Rev. Bishop Hiiboro reveals that, he was happy to quote the Holy Father Pope Francis who has openly supported and encouraged vaccination throughout the world.

Pope Francis had this to say, “Thanks to God’s grace and to the work of many, we now have vaccines to protect us from Covid-19. The vaccine brings hope to ending the pandemic, but only if we collaborate with God and one another.”

Bishop Hiiboro stated that, many people still fear receiving the vaccine, hoping that by receiving the vaccine himself, he will encourage many people to do the same.

Bishop Hiiboro explained that all adults are now legible and are encouraged to receive the vaccine in the country and that they can also take opportunity of its availability in the neighbouring country Uganda.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude totheemployees in health institutions andall healthprofessionalsfortheirwork,caring forpeople during this pandemic, and now their efforts tofacilitate the distribution of the vaccine, elsewhere in the world, here in Uganda and above all in my country the Republic of South Sudan,” Bishop Hiiboro expressed.

 Bishop Hiiboro said he was sharing photos of his recent vaccinationin the hope of encouraging Catholics and all eligible people in South Sudan toprayerfully consider receiving the vaccine whenever they are available.

In September, during their South Sudan Regional Secretariat, the Bishops of South Sudan affirmed in their Pastoral Statement that receivingcertainCovid-19 vaccinesis morally acceptable.

He urged scientists, researchers and pharmaceutical companies to use ethical means in the development and ask God to guide the doctors in the world.

“Today, Ialso want toonce againstrongly urge all scientists, researchers, and pharmaceutical companiestoonlyuse ethical meansin the development, research, design, and testing ofvaccines. May we continue to rely on Christ for strength and ask him to guide our doctors, nurses,and other health care professionalsduring this pandemic.”

Hiiboro also encouraged the government of South Sudan and all its partners to make sure that these essential vaccines reach the most vulnerable, right into the villages.

He called on the people of South Sudan and the world at large to remain committed to praying for healing and peace in the nation.

Bishop Hiiboro is the fourth Bishop in South Sudan who has so far received Covid-19 vaccine in the country.

He received the first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine on 17 of October 2021 in Kampala Uganda together with two priests from his Diocese.
