Bakhita Radio of the Archdiocese of Juba which was shut down last month by Sudan National Security is set to resume its operations on Sunday 14thSeptember.
Mr. Albino Tokwaro, the station’s director told AMECEA Online News from Juba that the National Security Services handed back the keys to the station on Friday 12th September 2014. “We are now waiting for the approval of the Archdiocese administration to resume broadcasting; the radio station will be back on air on Sunday 14th September, 2014” he said.

Mr. Tokwaro also said that some of the conditions given by the National Security Services for the radio to continue operating include keeping away from politics especially on the ongoing conflict in the country and focusing on development, education and agriculture issues.
Radio Bakhita was shut down by the Sudan National Security Services on 16thAugust, when they stormed the station, shutting it down, and arrested several journalists. Some of the journalists were later released the same day while the Editor who read morning news that day was detained.
The News Editor Ocen David Nicholas was later on released on 19th August 2014 but, the National Security service kept the keys to the radio station to keep it closed. The radio station was shut down due to allegations that they aired a story reflecting on the opposition’s views.
