The outgoing Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Archbishop Alain Paul Lebeaupin has urged Kenyans to ensure that the country’s General Elections, scheduled for March 4, next year, 2013 are held peacefully.

“You should guard that the ugly aftermath of the 2007 Elections does not resurface”, advised the Nuncio, who soon will take up a new Pope’s assignment as Vatican’s Representative at the European Union (EU), based at Brussels, Belgium.
“I came here in the year 2005 I did witness the first and second of the country’s referenda as well as the 2007 General Elections and I now leave when the country is about to undertake its next round of the General Elections,” said the outgoing Apostolic Nuncio.
“I pray and hope that the forthcoming elections will be peaceful. I will be following the event from wherever I will be,” added His Excellency Archbishop Lebeaupin.
The outgoing Apostolic Nuncio was speaking at a farewell party organized by the Apostolic Nunciature, Nairobi on his behalf on October 31.
The farewell was attended by scores of diplomats, led by the dean of diplomatic corps in Kenya, Tadui On’okoko, Ambassador of DR Congo in Kenya as well as several Catholic Bishops, the clergy, religious and the laity.
The outgoing Nuncio said he was leaving Kenya with great memories of the country and its people, having served in the country for seven years.
In May this year, the outgoing Apostolic Nuncio was involved in a road accident in Rome and used a walking stick as he addressed the congregation during the farewell party.
Addressing the congregation on behalf on his fellow bishops, John Cardinal Njue wished the Apostolic Nuncio a quick recovery from the accident.
He also commended him for his commitment to promoting church activities in the country. “He has always been ready to assist us whenever we called at him. We wish him all the best in his new appointment and God’s blessings,” emphasized the Cardinal.
In an interview with CISA Charge’ d’Affaires at the Apostolic Nunciature, Rev Msgr Javier Herrera Corona said the outgoing Apostolic Nuncio will be taking up his new appointment on November 19.
