The Ethiopian Conference of Catholic Bishops (ECCB) has this week rendered its support to the Federal Government efforts to combat Covid-19 by making a contribution of approximately United States $ 476,000 (1 million Ethiopian Birr).
This disclosure was made at an occasion witnessed by the Chairman of the Ethiopian Conference of Catholic Bishops who is the Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop His Eminence Berhaneyesus D. Cardinal Souraphiel C.M., the Resource Mobilization Coordination Sub Committee Chairperson Ambassador Misganu Arega and other senior Church and Government officials.
Commenting on the development, Fr. Teshome Fikre the Secretary General of Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat informed AMECEA Online that the Ethiopian government appealed to all institutions in the country to contribute to a fund which has been created to fight Covid-19.
He has expressed his appreciation to the Ethiopia government for the precautionary measures put in place so far to combat COVID-19, adding that the Church will actively cooperate with the measures and support the government in the fight against Coronavirus pandemic at all levels.
Fr. Teshome also thanked the international Catholic partners, especially the Catholic Relief Service (CRS) for the material and financial support they are providing.
He said the donation is part of the solidarity of the Church with the entire nation and that the Conference will continue to be part of the protection and combating journey till the world crosses over the current COVID 19 disaster.
